Introducing the artist behind Karaoke with Natali Caro (& friends)
We spoke to Natali Caro about her performance, experience at Bondi Festival and what audiences can expect when they come to the show. Natali Caro and their friends are doing a free interactive for 4 days, from Thursday 11 July 6pm at Bondi Pavilion upstairs bar! Learn more about Natali in their recent Bondi Festival interview:
Can you tell us a bit about your creative practice?
🌈 I am a comedian, actor and performer, that dabbles across many disciplines. My creative practice is facilitating escapism through memorable and irreplicable moments of entertainment. I am deeply passionate about advocating for greater representation, creating inclusion and respect for QTIBPOC – this hugely informs the work I produce. If I can do that by making others laugh, then all the better!
You were part of Bondi Festival last year, what made you want to come back again this year?
🌈 I had a blast meeting people from all walks of life, in the most intimate of all settings (an elevator). Watching perfect strangers walk into something totally unexpected; with either immediate delight, or a slowly-burning appreciation. Having just 30 seconds to entertain them was the quickest I’ve ever built rapport with an audience. I look forward to replicating it on a larger, and longer scale.
You’ll be performing in the bar for the Festival, what can we expect from your performances?
🌈 CAMP & FUN!
I love Karaoke and I really feel it’s a universal language (those who disagree are just shy)! I’m a big believer in getting audiences involved (with consent ofc), and encouraging them to share in the spotlight. So whilst you can expect all the bells and whistles from my performances, you can also expect to be blown away by your own hidden (or dormant) talents, waiting to be called upon.
Tell us some of your favourite songs to perform for and with audiences?
🌈 Cher and Journey are go-to’s of mine! Limp Bizkit also goes down a treat, even for those who are unfamiliar with the chokehold of 90’s Nu-Metal – they tend to just enjoy the bald-cap Drag.
Your Bondi Festival show is called ‘Karaoke with Nat Caro (& Friends). If you could choose one any person in the world to be your friend to sing with you for just one song, who would it be?
🌈 I want to say Steve Perry, but in my heart I know the true answer is Cher. I’ve been lucky enough to see her live in concert twice, but it’s never enough! If she just looked at me I would probably melt away, so I’m not sure I would survive a whole song, let alone be considered a friend of hers. That’s the dream…
