Everyone’s got a tale of romantic woe but where are the ballads and blockbusters about friendship breakups.
‘FOR THE BEST’ is built from real stories of dead friendships. It’s messy, hilarious, and all too painfully familiar. The storytellers are everyday people; locals of Waverley who share their raw takes on why and how their friendships broke down and the aftermath of these breakups. These true accounts are then woven together with live music by Luke Dux (The Kill Devil Hills) into a performance that looks unflinchingly at what it means to lose a friend, and to live with the space they leave behind. Expect some light-hearted and serious takes on a deeply vulnerable subject – underpinned by a cautious hopefulness about what the future holds.
Created by Jeffrey Jay Fowler (The Last Great Hunt) with Mark Storen and Georgia King (Whiskey & Boots), whose award-winning works include THE ONE, MAMA STITCH, and FAG/STAG.

About The Artists
The Last Great Hunt is an internationally renowned, artist-led collective of five theatre makers: Gita Bezard, Adriane Daff, Jeffrey Jay Fowler, Arielle Gray, and Tim Watts. We are based, and make our theatre, on Whadjuk Noongar Boodja (Perth, Western Australia). We are creators, innovators, and above all else, explorers. With each new theatre experience, we hunt for new ideas and new ways of connecting with our expanding audiences across Australia and the world. Joined by our Director of Operations, Jacintha De Nobrega, Producer, Georgia Landré-Ord, and Intern, Anja Starkiss, we are the Hunters: creating high-quality, rigorous, relevant, and entertaining original work. Our shows feature an eclectic variety of forms, styles, and experiences, ensuring that our audiences are engaged, challenged, and moved. We believe that theatre should be accessible to all- free from barriers to participation and engagement- so our work is designed to reach diverse audiences. From large-scale productions to intimate, non-verbal pieces that transcend language, and nimble touring works that bring theatre to new and unexpected places, we are committed to creating work that is inclusive, immersive, and open to everyone, regardless of background or experience. We aim to be recognised as a sustainable, Boorloo (Perth) based global theatrical force, regularly creating acclaimed, invigorating, original work. We take a leadership role in the development of the arts in Perth while offering opportunities, resources, and development to our artists and our Core Operations team.
Whiskey & Boots is a Perth based performance company that make Headphone Verbatim Performance work that examines the challenges and contradictions of the human condition. Using storytelling with music we take real stories gathered from a community and share them publicly, illuminating moments that are familiar, expose common challenges and secret fears, reminding audiences that we are all complex, ugly, beautiful, brave, funny, flawed and vulnerable. Our work is low-fi, stripped back and welcoming, the fourth wall doesn’t exist. Through the sharing of honest moments in intimate spaces we can try to understand each other better, boldly, honestly, playfully.
