You’ve Got Mail is a drastically different take on the beloved romantic comedy of the same name.

Meg Ryan is looking for love on the internet. She finds a kind and thoughtful stranger in a chat room and instantly engages in flirty repartee. The play appears to be a romcom – it looks and feels like a romcom, and Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks are both charismatic and endearing romcom heavyweights, right? Wrong.

The story takes a strange turn as the online chatroom the two communicate through engages in manipulative romantic power play with both parties. Can real human emotion prevail in the age of the internet? Or does addiction to online interaction spell the end for love?

You’ve Got Mail is a new work created by emerging playwright Ang Collins and emerging director Sarah Hadley. Postmodern, parodic, romantic and funny until it’s not, You’ve Got Mail is a quirky romcom for those trying to hold onto something pure in the dark age of the internet.
