When was the last time you had a night out dancing? Nightclub’s not quite your scene anymore but you’re not ready to Foxtrot at the RSL? Do you long for the days you were swept up to dance by good tunes and a buzzing atmosphere? Find yourself back there this July at The Bondi Social, a spin-off of Dance Makers Collective’s Sydney Festival hit The Rivoli.
Taking inspiration from the peak dance hall and disco eras of the 1960s and 70s, The Bondi Social asks the question, did disco really kill the old-time dance? Did pop music really kill the disco? Whatever your take on it, the heart of dancing to music, together, with friends and with strangers, lives on at The Bondi Social. Whether you have a dance partner, like a night out on the town, or enjoy rocking out solo in your bedroom, The Bondi Social is the place for you at Bondi Festival!
Free Dance Workshop:
Enjoy a free dance workshop as well as The Bondi Social show!
In the lead up to The Bondi Social, DMC is excited to share with you, regardless of your style, a variety of tools and tactics to infect the dance floor. Imagine a brand new Nutbush, a flash mob, a simple and elegant partner dance, an infectious groove and other highly social, super danceable routines you can learn with ease and share with others in real time. We’re offering a free workshop to learn the moves, the rules of the game, that we will spring on patrons at The Bondi Social. The workshop is suitable for anyone who loves to dance. Whether or not you have a partner, no matter what dance you practice, this workshop is for you! The workshop is free to patrons who purchase a ticket to The Bondi Social.
What to wear: Comfy clothes and shoes to dance in, maybe bring a water bottle with you too!

Meet the collective:
Dance Makers Collective, based on Dharug country (Western Sydney), is the only collective-led dance company in Australia. With a mission to build dance communities, DMC brings people together by working with, and between, dance theatre, contemporary dance and social dance. DMC is a democratic organisation of independent artists who live the mantra the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Its Directors are skilled performers, choreographers, producers, designers, educators and composers, who’s individual experiences and practices feed the organisation, enriching the art DMC makes and the services it offers to the sector and community. Established in 2012, DMC has presented 17 dance productions, in theatres, town halls, galleries, parks, street corners, balconies, on YouTube and Instagram, in cities and regional towns in almost every Australian state and territory. In 2022/23, DMC toured The Rivoli, the work that The Bondi Social takes its inspiration from, to regional WA, VIC, NSW and QLD after a sold-out season in Sydney Festival.
