“When I saw this show I cried, I cheered and I left both shaken and pumped up. Pink Matter are incredible and I feel so lucky to have them in this year’s program.” – Rachel Chant, Festival Director on Betwixt

A reckoning and purging of cosmic proportions.

Brisbane-based collective Pink Matter are here to usher street dance into new theatrical realms in this “truly phenomenal” new work (Nothing Ever Happens in Brisbane).

A rallying cry for the street dancing community, Betwixt fuses spoken word and street dance to share stories of ruin and resilience; to celebrate diversity and to explore rich and rousing cultural perspectives, through an exploration of identity, upbringing, relationships and sense of self.

“An enthralling blend of street dance… and the spoken word” – Creative Futures on Betwixt

“Super fun, fiercely staunch, mega hot, and serving home truths all at the same time.” – Nothing Ever Happens in Brisbane

“Arresting, fierce, explosive – Betwixt is a piece of artistic prowess.” – Binge Fringe Magazine

WINNER: Adelaide Fringe Award for Best Dance 2023
WINNER: Adelaide Fringe Weekly Award, Pick of the Week

Meet the Creator:

Pink Matter is a street dance collective committed to gender empowerment through music, dance and style. Led by Wanida Serce (Commonwealth Games; Special Olympics; Australia’s Got Talent), the ultimate girl gang includes some of the most in demand performance artists and internationally renowned choreographers. Between running community events and training the next street dancers in various styles, Pink Matter has found their groove in bridging the worlds of theatre and street dance. Their debut work, The Type, was part of Brisbane Festival’s ‘Working Title’ program and premiered in a sell-out season at Metro Arts in 2020. Back in a rallying cry for the street-dancing scene, Betwixt was developed as part of Metro Arts’ ‘Company In Residence’ program and premiered to sold-out audiences at Mad Dance Festival in June 2022. The Betwixt cast is comprised of five professional, Brisbane-born artists; Wanida Serce (founder of Pink Matter and director), Huda Fadlelmawla (writer), Jazi Othman, Joshua Taliani and Amy Zhang.
