@AbuSalim is a wild, gender-bending, comedy mash-up created by Randa Sayed.

Zac, a full-time Arab-Australian barber from Fairfield, moonlights as a revolutionary poet and pioneer, fighting for the rights of women of colour – as only he can. Join Zac at his barbershop as he rehearses his new activist endeavour, “The Good Allyship of Captain Salim”: a special night of poetry curated by Zac to give a voice to women of colour.

Please note: Whilst Zac is committed to helping women understand themselves, Zac is a married man and father to two daughters. Hot babes are asked to please understand that he will only give you a platonic follow. For now. Respectfully. You’re welcome.

Meet the creator:

Randa Sayed is a storyteller, driven by the dialogue existing between her work and her audience. Proudly living, working and growing up in Western Sydney has grounded her artistic practice of creating inclusive, collaborative, cultural feminist comedy. A Create NSW Fellow, Randa has trained at Theatre Nepean, Jacques Lecoq and Ecole Phillipe Gaulier. Her recent plays have been presented at the National Theatre of Parramatta and Griffin Theatre Company. Recent screen works include Halal Gurls for In Between Pictures, ABC/Create NSW and new works for Bunya Productions and Matchbox. She more recently received a second Ian Potter Cultural Trust Grant to support her upcoming residency at Battersea Arts Centre in London.
